Crowley confirmed to INM board post

MEDIA

INDEPENDENT News & Media have formally confirmed the appointment of new chief executive Vincent Crowley to the board of directors of the company. The appointment was made on April 19. INM also confirmed that, save for his non-executive directorship on the board of APN News & Media Limited, and his previous executive directorship on the board of INM, Mr Crowley does not hold, and has not in the past five years held, a directorship in any publicly quoted companies.

Connacht Gold increase revenues

DAIRY

CONNACHT Gold has reported an increase in revenues for 2011, while operating profits also rose slightly. The dairy, consumer foods and agri-business co-operative said that turnover increased to €345m from €296m in 2010. Operating profits inched higher to €3.29m from €3.24m the previous year.

Less disposable income for families

NORTHERN IRELAND

Families in the North had an average disposable income of just £83 (€101.45) a week compared to their British counterparts, where households had £144 a week, according to the latest Asda Income Tracker. This is a decrease of 7pc from last year.

Dip in consumer confidence -- report

US

CONSUMER confidence in the US edged slightly lower in April, while Americans also reined in their inflation expectations after a surge in the previous month, according to a report released yesterday by the Conference Board, an industry group, which tracks indices. Ireland and UK sign marine agreement

INNOVATION

IRELAND and the UK signed a memorandum of understanding pledging closer co-operation in the area of marine research, development and innovation. Dr Peter Heffernan of the Marine Institute, and Prof Ian Wright, deputy director, Science and Technology, National Oceanography Centre, signed the agreement in the presence of Agriculture Minister Simon Coveney, to foster closer co-operation and joint activities.
