Cork-based call centre firm Voxpro bought in €150m deal

Cork-based outsourcing business Voxpro, which employs 2,700 people worldwide, has been bought by the Canadian call centre giant Telus International.

The companies did not disclose an acquisition price.

However, industry analysts close to the deal valued the acquisition at close to €150m.

Voxpro provides high end call centre operations for fast-growing tech companies, including global giants such as Google and Airbnb.

Voxpro was founded by husband-and-wife management team Dan and Linda Kiely, who owned the company outright. It recently opened a new Dublin office in the docklands area with plans to employ 400 people there.

The company’s most recent accounts show that it had revenues in 2015 of €33m and profits of €3m. Earlier this year, Mr Kiely told this newspaper that the firm’s revenues would soon reach €100m. He also said that the company was seeking to raise finance in the “tens of millions” for aggressive expansion into Asia.

Mr Kiely will stay on in an undisclosed management role under Telus International chief executive Jeffrey Puritt. It is understood that Ms Kiely is to “step back” from the business, retaining an “oversight role” with Voxpro.

Voxpro currently has call centres in Cork, Dublin, Bucharest, Manila and in the US cities of Athens and Folsom.

Founded in Cork 20 years ago, the company has built up expertise in high end support for some of the world’s booming tech companies.

It has recently landed contracts with a new wave of Silicon Valley up-and-comers, including the €60m-funded stock trading app Robinhood.

The company acquiring Voxpro has 28,000 employees worldwide and is a subsidiary of Telus, the Canadian telecoms firm which has almost €10bn in annual revenue.

In its call centres, Voxpro offers multilingual product support, technical support and specialist services in safety, risk, analytics and social media management for client firms.

In recent years, the company has become Ireland's largest international call centre operator for technical and sales support.

After the acquisition, the Cork-based firm will be known as ‘Voxpro – powered by Telus International’.
