RING THE CHANGES

MUG SHOT

It's rare to find nicely designed Irish tableware that doesn't cost an arm and a leg. Arran Street East is the new kid on the block. They take their colours from Dublin's fruit and vegetable markets (cabbage, potato, parsnip and pomegranate). Mugs are €30 at makersandbrothers.com and Scout in Temple Bar, with more stockists on www.arranstreeteast.ie.

SNUG AS A BUG

This neat little chest of drawers (€565) comes from Snug, winners of the Design & Crafts Council of Ireland's craftsmanship award at Showcase 2015 - well made, affordable design from people who like bright colours (snug.ie).

HOT FROM THE NORTH

BTU is a hot glass studio based in Antrim - the name comes from a unit for measuring energy. These stripy vases cost around €79 but they also make a restrained monochrome jug that won this year's Showcase award (stockists from www.btustudio.com).

RING THE CHANGES

The Westport-based Superfolk (www.superfolk.com) won the Design & Crafts Council of Ireland Creative Island Award at Showcase 2015. They design cool things based on folk objects, like this trivet ring (€38 from makersandbrothers.com).
