Millrace Hotel sold for just under €2m
The Millrace Hotel in Bunclody, Co Wexford, is to be converted for use as a nursing home following its sale for a figure understood to be just under €2m to Prudent Healthcare Ltd.
The hotel, which had been under the management of the McGettigan Group, came on the market in July of last year with a guide price of €2m through agent CBRE. While many of the residents of Bunclody had hoped to see the property continue operating as a hotel, John Hughes of CBRE's hotel division told the Irish Independent the property had attracted a number of alternative users, including the purchaser.
Commenting on his company's plans for the Millrace, John Dargan of Prudent Healthcare said: "The proposed nursing home will provide significant employment in the area during the refurbishment phase and on completion the property will be a state-of-the-art luxurious nursing home facility offering between 50 and 60 beds."
Purpose built as a hotel in 2004, the Millrace Hotel is a four-storey building with 60 bedrooms across its upper three floors.
The property's ground floor consists of a reception, bar and bistro and a conference/function room, and facilities including catering kitchens. There are two passenger lifts and a service lift.
The property also includes a leisure club with 18m pool, gym, sauna, steam room and Jacuzzi. There is parking for 50 cars with overflow to the rear for another 80 cars. The hotel occupies a site of 1.5 hectares (3.7 acres).
Bunclody is 20km from Enniscorthy, 42km from Wexford Town, 60km from Kilkenny, 30km from Carlow, and 115km from Dublin city.
