Camelot throws name in hat
The Punt notices that UK lottery operator Camelot has been busy putting its ducks in a row as it lines up a joint bid with An Post to run Ireland's National Lottery.
Filings at the Companies Office reveal that a new company called Premier Lotteries Ireland was established here in May. The directors of the firm are Nigel Railton, Camelot's group chief financial officer, and Lino Louis, or 'Lee' Sienna, who's a senior vice president at Canada's Ontario Teachers' Pension Plan, the company that owns Camelot after buying it in 2010.
A 20-year licence to operate the National Lottery is being sold off by the Government. The winning bidder will have to pay a sizeable upfront fee – something that Camelot's owner would have no problem doing.
The Ontario Teachers' Pension Plan has assets of close to €100bn.
