Grocery retail group BWG Foods has secured a €7.5m deal to supply groceries and meats to family holiday resort Center Parcs in Co Longford.

The €233m forest resort is currently under construction and is expected to open in 2019.

BWG, which boasts Mace and Spar among its brands, will supply goods to the resort's own supermarket.

The three-year deal, worth around €2m a year, includes an option to extend to five years. The company will supply fresh food, ambient grocery, frozen and chilled products. The store will be located at the heart of the resort and will stretch over 5,000 sq ft.

BWG has also agreed to supply poultry and other meats to the resort's various restaurants through its partnership with Heaney Meats. The separate contract also stretches for three years and is worth around €500,000 a year.

BWG key accounts director Alex Banahan said that the deals were a "unique addition" to the company's business.

"Our ability to deliver cost competitiveness through our consolidated supply network, our proven partnership model, our willingness to understand our customers' needs and our ability to deliver workable solutions were all key factors in securing this deal," he said.

"Being at the forefront of wholesale distribution in Ireland, we believe we are the perfect partners to support Center Parcs on its first venture into Ireland."
