The main speeches have been given, the briefcase has been pictured and we're trying to figure out what it means for us.

If you're a motorist, no fear, here are the five things it means for you:

1. Push to go electric

VRT relief (€5,000) on electric vehicles is extended for five years. Buyers benefit from a total of €10,000 off the price of an electric car because the SEAI (Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland) also contributes a €5,000 grant.

2. All about the hybrid

VRT relief (worth up to €1,500) is extended for two years on hybrids.

3. Thinking green

Plug-in hybrids will get €2,500 VRT relief for two more years at least. And there is an additional €5,000 SEAI grant – making a total of up to €7,500 off the price of a plug-in.

4. No increases on petrol

Mr Noonan did not increase tax on petrol or diesel.

5. Natural gas

Natural gas used as vehicle fuel will be taxed at minimum excise rate - for eight years.
