High notes for Budget blues
TWO musicians staged their own 'anti-Budget blues' demonstration from the top of one of Ireland's most famous landmarks.
Harpist Ruth McDonnell and uileann piper Maire de Cogain braved snow, ice and Arctic dawn temperatures to play a traditional music set from the top of Shandon Steeple in Cork city.
The musicians warned that Irish people must remain positive despite bad bankers, poor governance and the budgetary fears.
"Everyone is affected one way or another," Ruth said. "But we just want to say we are down but we're not out.
"We have a wonderful tradition of the arts in this country and when times look bleak, we should remember how much more there is to us than mere financial forecasts."
