Pound drops on fears of a no-deal Brexit

The pound fell nearly 1pc against the US dollar and euro following reports that Prime Minister Boris Johnson will ask the Queen to suspend parliament shortly after MPs return in September.

A pound was worth 1.22805 dollars at 8.45am before the expected announcement was made public, falling to 1.21720 an hour later.

Against the euro, a pound was worth 1.10644 at 8.45am, falling to 1.09760 at 9.45am.
