Open border between Northern Ireland and Republic will be impossible - Revenue report
A Revenue Commissioners report has declared that an open border between Northern Ireland and the Republic will be impossible from a customs perspective in the wake of Brexit.
According to RTE News, who said they have seen the unpublished internal report, Ireland's customs infrastructure - and tens of thousands of companies who trade with the UK - will be severely impacted as Britain leaves the EU.
It is understood that the report explores the additional toil in terms of increased paperwork and determines a considerable increased human resources and physical space requirements at ports and airports.
Extra staff will also be needed at An Post to manage customs checks on parcels coming in from the UK, according to the report.
The Revenue Commissioners report said that traders, smaller regional airports - and even the Ploughing Championships - will also suffer.
