Fine Gael Brexit spokesperson Neale Richmond has written to the BBC over its "appalling" lack of probing of pro-Brexit speakers.

Mr Richmond is a regular on BBC radio and television, having appeared on prime-time shows, including 'Newsnight' and 'Spotlight'.

"Far too many interviewers take for granted what is being said by Brexiteers; they accept without asking for detail" on the Border, he claimed.

Mr Richmond said it was "worrying" that the BBC appeared to "go harder on the Remainers".

"I found it definitely on 'Newsnight'," he told the Irish Independent. "They're allowing guests repeat untruths without simple fact-checking."

In response, the BBC said it "continues to report Brexit impartially and features a wide range of different perspectives across our news coverage.

"Our journalists report independently and without fear or favour."

It is now one year until Britain will be at the end of the Article 50 period.
