Despite near-full employment, Brexit chaos a risk to 85,000 jobs
Up to 85,000 jobs could be lost as a no-deal Brexit looms as a potential "fly in the ointment" to the country's strong economic growth.
As the economy nears full employment, a recruitment company has issued a bleak warning about the risk of devastating job losses ahead.
Pawel Adrjan, economist at global jobs website Indeed, said the Government has warned that 55,000 jobs could be lost in the first two years of a disorderly Brexit, and as many as 85,000 over the longer term.
"The possible fly in the ointment of the overwhelmingly positive Irish employment story is the ever-present risk of a no-deal Brexit, given the current dynamics of the Conservative Party leadership race in the UK," he said.
The employment rate last month stood at 4.5pc - unchanged since the previous month.
