Brewer takes MD role at Magnet as it goes global

Telecoms veteran Stephen Brewer is to become managing director of Magnet Networks' Irish business to allow current CEO Mark Kellett to set up a new global division.

The broadband company - owned by Columbia Ventures Corporation, an American private equity firm - is opening offices in India, Australia, Dubai, the US and the UK.

Magnet Networks has been providing fibre broadband to homes and businesses since 2008.

It recently announced the installation of free public wi-fi in the centre of Galway and seven other towns around the country.

"We work with some of the world's biggest brands and believe that there is considerable further opportunity for us in the sector," said Kellett, who will lead the new global givision as Magnet Networks Group CEO.

"The design and unique deployment of Magnet Networks' technology is enabling a new way of smart living and our majority-owned subsidiary, Velocity 1, is redefining the traditional rental model in the biggest construction project in Britain."

Kellet said there had been "significant interest from international organisations" seeking to partner with Magnet Networks.

Brewer previously held CEO positions at Vodafone, Cable & Wireless and Digicel.
