Best buys: Tents
Camping. You either love it or you hate it. I'm definitely the latter, but for those who adore the great outdoors and everything Mother Nature has to throw at them, we've checked out some family-sized tents. They might even suit the more mature festival fan. . .
REGATTA FOUR-MAN DOMED TENT €98
WHILE it's billed as accommodating four people in a single room, it is unlikely four adults would find it very comfortable. It's definitely cozy and is more suitable for festivals or weekends rather than a proper family holiday. With excellent water resistance, an outer layer ensures the inside stays dry. The inner skin also has vents with a fine mesh to keep bugs out. With little storage, damp clothes or smelly shoes can be kept in the porch. Weighing just 6kg, it's easy to carry, quick to erect and pack away and compact to store.
HALFORD'S ATAGO URBAN
ESCAPE FIVE-MAN TENT €225
AGAIN, this tent is very easy to erect and take down, but it is a lot heavier to carry, weighing more than 19kg. It is spacious, with plenty of living room for five and lots of storage, and the sleeping area can be divided into two separate areas. It has several air vents for good circulation, and the fine-mesh fly screens should keep most of the insects outside. It even boasts a cable access port and lantern hooks, making camping a slightly more pleasant experience.
OUTWELL NEVADA €449
THIS top-of-the-range tent sleeps five in two bedrooms and has a living area. It is a bit trickier to erect and weighs 19.8kg, making packing it away harder too. But it is spacious for living, sleeping and storage and has lantern hooks and cable access ports. Five windows make the interior feel bright. It has good water-resistance, is well ventilated, and fly sheets keep insects out. And if you've really got your Bear Grylls on, Outwell says the Nevada M can handle winds of up to gale force 9.
