Discount supermarket Aldi has been crowned Ireland's top brand for reputation and value in research from polling group YouGov.

The index, which measured average scores across six categories - impression, quality, value, satisfaction, recommend and reputation - placed the German group ahead of all its sector rivals.

In addition, it performed better than the likes of Google and YouTube.

John Curtin, Aldi Group buying director, said: "This is another marker of success for what Aldi Ireland is doing, and particularly gratifying as it is based on consistent interviews with consumers right throughout the year. The survey measures important areas like value, reputation and satisfaction, all of which are central to our offering."

Lidl and Google took second and third place in the ranking, which looked at 77 different brands, while Netflix and Tesco completed the top five. All brands were tracked for at least six months to be included.
