Eight people, including at least four children, have been killed in flash flooding caused by torrential rain in northern Turkey, authorities have said.

The downpours caused a river to burst its banks, inundating homes and shops and stranding cars in the Black Sea port city of Samsun, the state-run Anadolu agency reported.

Two brothers, aged one and five, as well as a man and his two sons, aged nine and 16, drowned when the flood hit their homes, it said.

The country's emergency management authority said 21 people had been injured and two others were missing.

In 2010, 12 people were killed in a major landslide and flood in the tea-growing Black Sea province of Rize.
