Two men arrested after armed robbery at post office

Two men armed with what appeared to be a handgun and an iron bar threatened staff at a branch in Cork.

Two men have been arrested after an armed robbery at a post office in Co Cork.

Gardai said the suspects were taken into custody at about 2.30pm on Thursday following the robbery, which happened in Little Island in the city at about 9.30am.

Two men armed with what appeared to be a handgun and an iron bar entered the post office and threatened staff.

They fled with a small sum of cash.

No staff member was injured.

Officers said the men left the scene in a black car with an 05-C registration. It had damage on each side.

Both suspects are aged in their thirties. They are being detained in Mayfield and Gurranabraher garda stations.
