Motorists warned to take care as cold snap continues

Motorists are being advised to drive with care as the cold snap continues.

Met Eireann has said that there will be further outbreaks of rain, sleet and snow later this afternoon.

Some heavy snow is also expected tonight across the south and east.

Icy patches are likely with temperatures as low as zero in many places.

Gardai have said that roads are currently passable but very wet around the country.

The worst affected area is around Kildare where driving conditions are said to be treacherous.

Met Eireann said that the cold snap is expected to continue for the rest of the week.
