Met Éireann says enjoy today's sunny spells as 'widespread rain' to hit later tonight

Ireland's weather is set to be a mixed bag this week as sunny spells make way for widespread rain across the country later tonight.

Heavy rain is expected in parts and temperatures will range between 15 to 19 degrees.

Tomorrow will be bright and breezy with sunny spells and scattered showers, some turning heavy.

Tuesday will see rain with gusty winds in the west and north of the country.

Most of the country should remain dry until evening time, but it will become very wet and windy on Tuesday night, especially over Connacht and west Ulster.

Wednesday looks set to be a windy one with gusty southwest to west winds.

However, it will be a bight day with sunny spells and scattered light showers. with winds easing gradually.

Thursday will see a wet and windy start with some heavy outbreaks of rain, especially in northern counties.

But it will also be the hottest day of the week as temperatures hit highs of 20C.

The national forecaster says there are indications of drier conditions developing Friday and Saturday.
