Man arrested after woman ‘sexually assaulted’ in a car in Dublin

Gardai have seized a car in connection with the investigation.

A man in his 30s has been arrested by gardai investigating an alleged sexual assault on a woman in a car in Dublin.

The man was arrested in the Dublin area last Thursday, January 3.

He was taken to Irishtown garda station where he was detained under the the Criminal Justice Act.

Gardai have also seized a car in connection with the investigation.

The man was later released without charged on Friday evening and a file will be prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions.

The incident is believed to have happened on Sunday, December 9, between 12.30am and 2.30am around the Shelbourne Road, Ballsbridge, Merrion Road, Serpentine Avenue areas of Dublin 4.

Gardai say they also have particular interest in the movements of the woman in the Mountjoy area between 2.14am until 3.44am.

The woman described her alleged attacker as being in his late 20s or early 30s, with a short beard, glasses, short dark hair and a short sleeved shirt.

The alleged injured party was wearing a long black dress.

Gardai have appealed to anyone who noticed anything suspicious around Shelbourne Road, Ballsbridge, Merrion Road and Serpentine Avenue in the early hours of December 9 or in the Mountjoy Square area between 2.14am and 3.44am.

They have also appealed to any motorists with dashcam footage from the area.
