Man arrested after pensioner seriously injured in attack

The assault took place in a car park in Macroom, Co Cork, in the early hours of Thursday.

A man in his 30s has been arrested after a pensioner was seriously assaulted in a car park in Co Cork.

The victim in his 70s was taken to Cork University Hospital with serious injuries after he was attacked in Sleaveen East, Macroom.

The incident happened in the early hours of Thursday.

Gardai investigating the assault arrested the man at the scene and he was taken to Bandon garda station, where he is currently detained under the Criminal Justice Act.

The scene is currently preserved, while a technical examination is to be carried out on Thursday.
