Kehoe: Conditions for Defence Forces members ‘challenging’
Minister of State for Defence Paul Kehoe visited soldiers in Co Wicklow.
The Government has acknowledged challenging conditions for Defence Forces members.
Minister of State for Defence Paul Kehoe visited soldiers at Coolmoney Camp, Glen of Imaal in Co Wicklow.
They will be deployed to Syria on UN duties and are entering a final phase of training.
Mr Kehoe said: “We have challenging conditions, I have seen this at first hand.”
Previously, the Permanent Defence Forces Representative Association said members were paying to leave the forces in large numbers.
The minister said he took on board concerns raised with him by members of the military.
He said: “That is why the Government prioritised the defence section for the Pay Commission.”
He said the body would make recommendations soon and ministers would consider them.
