Irishman arrested in US over alleged sexual abuse offences
An Irishman has been arrested by authorities in the US over alleged sexual offences which allegedly occurred in Ireland.
The man was arrested at his home in Carpenter Village Apartments in New York shortly before 7.30pm on Wednesday and was previously involved with GAA groups in the midlands.
Officers at the Guilderland Police Department confirmed he is to remain in custody before being extradited back to Ireland.
He was apprehended as a “fugitive of Justice” in a joint operation with the Department of Homeland Security.
The offences are alleged to have occurred between 2004 and 2009.
He is due to face an extradition hearing on January 25, according to various news organisations in the US.
