Four arrested and firearm seized in Longford raid

Gardai have seized a firearm and arrested four people after raiding a house in the Midlands overnight.

Drugs worth around €25,000 were also recovered following a pre-planned search in Longford.

The area has been plagued by a number of ongoing feuds in recent months which have seen a number of assaults and gun attacks.

Yesterday gardai searched a premises on the Strokestown Road, Co Longford, as part of an ongoing investigation.

A firearm was seized along with amphetamine and cannabis with an estimated street value of €25,000.

Four people have also been arrested and are currently being held under firearms legislation.

Two men in their 30s, another male in his 40s as well as a woman in her 20s are all being held at garda stations in Longford and Roscommon.

They are being quizzed under Section 30 of the Offences Against the State Act and can be held for up to three days.

Gardai have said that their investigation into the seizure are ongoing.
