Ex-police officer accused of hoax bomb alerts in north

An alcoholic ex-police officer has been accused of causing two hoax bomb alerts in the north within the past week. Brian Coulter, aged 58, was today charged with hoax bomb alerts at a school in Magherafelt and at a store in Cookstown.

He also faces charges on three counts of wasting police time, as resources were tied up for hours in both towns. The defendant was released on bail, ordered to abstain from alcohol, and submit himself for unannounced breathalyser tests.
