Elderly man dies in early-morning crash in Co Roscommon

The driver, aged in his 70s, died in hospital after the incident at Ballyforan.

An elderly man has died after his car struck a wall in Co Roscommon.

Gardai and emergency services were called to the scene at Ballyforan at about 4.50am on Tuesday.

The driver, aged in his 70s, was taken to Roscommon University Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead

A woman, who was a passenger, was not injured in the incident.

A post-mortem examination is due to take place later on Tuesday.

The road remains closed to allow garda forensic collision investigators to carry out an examination and local diversions are in place.
