Elderly couple suffer shock after aggravated burglary at their home

An investigation is under way after an elderly couple were locked up during an aggravated burglary in their home.

Gardai said two men armed with a knife, hammer and hatchet entered the home of the couple on Rock Road in Blackrock, Co Louth, at about 8pm on Tuesday.

The men proceeded to lock up the man and woman, both of whom are in their eighties, in an upstairs bedroom before ransacking the house.

The garda said a sum of cash was taken as well as a car.

The couple were taken to hospital suffering from shock.

No arrests have been made.
