Driver (70) killed after hitting wall

A man has been killed in a single vehicle crash in Co Galway.

Gardai are investigating the fatal crash which happened on the Ballinasloe to Laurencetown Road at around 8.30pm yesterday evening.

The driver - who was 70-years-old - struck a wall and was pronounced dead at the scene.

His body was taken to the morgue at University Hospital Galway where a post mortem will take place.

The road is currently closed pending an examination of the scene by Forensic Collision Investigators and local diversions are in place.

Gardaí are appealing for witnesses to this collision or persons who may have travelled the road around the time of the collision to contact Ballinasloe Garda Station on 090-9631890, The Garda Confidential telephone Line on 1800 66 111 or any Garda Station.
