US punter scoops $312m jackpot

A New York lottery official has said the winning ticket for last week's Mega Millions lottery jackpot worth $312m (€222m) was sold at a variety store in Albany, New York.

According to the Mega Millions website, the jackpot is the sixth-highest in the game's history. The largest jackpot was $390m in March 2007.

Witherspoon weds Hollywood agent

Hollywood star Reese Witherspoon has tied the knot with her fiance.

A spokeswoman for the Academy Award winning actress said she wed Hollywood agent, Jim Toth, yesterday in Ojai, California, about 90 miles north of Los Angeles. Publicist Nicole Perna did not reveal details of the ceremony.

When his ex-wife checked her credit report and found accounts used to purchase a bed and a laptop, she contacted police, who found that the calls were recorded.

A man who bit off part of a neighbour's ear in a drunken fight is facing a lighter jail term after a court in Oregan, US, ruled that teeth were not a dangerous weapon.

The decision overturned a first-degree assault conviction for 30-year-old Scott Russell Kuperus II.
