US lifts nuclear-related sanctions as watchdog declares Iran to be compliant

Iran has met its obligations to the UN atomic watchdog and nuclear-related US economic sanctions will be lifted, US secretary of state John Kerry said.

In a statement, Mr Kerry said the sanctions termination provisions of Iran's landmark nuclear agreement are now in effect.

President Barack Obama delegated authority to Mr Kerry to make the determination.

Mr Kerry's statement followed a finding by the International Atomic Energy Agency that Iran has complied with the deal to curb its nuclear programme in exchange for sanctions relief.
