US airport trials new 'chat-down' system
AN AMERICAN airport has opened a new chapter in the row over intrusive airport security "pat-downs" by trialling a new system that has been labelled the "chat-down".
For the next two months, all travellers passing through Boston Logan International must have a brief interview with a security official trained to spot suspicious behaviour. If taken up by other airports, it will add yet more time to journeys.
Janet Napolitano, the US homeland security secretary, said yesterday that large-scale terrorist plots comparable to the September 11 attacks were no longer the biggest threat. But smaller plots were a risk.(© Daily Telegraph, London)
