US air force colonel charged with rape found dead at home
A US air force colonel who was charged with rape has been found dead at his Colorado home.
Colorado Springs police found the body of Col Eugene Caughey on Sunday after being called to an incident in which a man was feared to have taken his own life. Post-mortem tests are taking place.
The 46-year-old had been vice commander of the 50th Space Wing at Schriever Air Force Base outside Colorado Springs, which operates key military satellite systems.
Col Caughey was accused of raping a woman in late 2014 or early 2015. He was also charged with adultery, indecent filming or photography, dereliction of duty and conduct unbecoming an officer.
His court-martial had been scheduled for October 17.
