Two people have died after a car drove through temporary barricades set up for a US festival and went into a crowd of pedestrians.

The two victims were confirmed dead at the South By Southwest festival in Austin, Texas, along a city centre block where several clubs are located.

Police said 21 others were taken to hospital, most with minor injuries, while at least five had more serious injuries.

South by Southwest is a set of film, interactive and music festivals and conferences that take place every year in Austin.
