Three sailors die in boat race collision

Three sailors were killed during a yacht race from California to Mexico at the weekend. Their 37ft boat apparently collided with a much larger ship, a sailing organisation said.

The 'Aegean' disappeared off the online tracking system early on Saturday. A subsequent coastguard search found the wreckage and the bodies.

£96m left in will by artist Freud

PORTRAIT painter Lucian Freud left a record £96m (€118m) in his will, the largest sum bequeathed by a British artist.

Mr Freud died in July last year aged 88, by which time his uncompromising, fleshy portraits had made him one of the most revered artists.
