Teen 'under age' for wine gums
A teenager told how he was forced to hand back a packet of wine gums because a bungling shopkeeper believed he was "under age".
Jaz Bhogal (15) bought the Haribo sweets from a 99p shop in Cambridgeshire, England, but was called back to the till and wrongly warned they contained alcohol. The teenager said he was left speechless after visiting the store on October 10 with a friend. He was made to hand over the packet of sweets and given a refund. 99p Stores commercial director Hussein Lulani admitted the cashier had been "over zealous".
Cabbage the key to perfect gravy
Juices from a joint of beef and the left-over water from boiled cabbage make the perfect gravy, scientists have said.
Research by the Royal Society of Chemistry has come up with the ideal recipe for traditional gravy. The society says a good gravy has a lot of nutrients, including protein, vitamins B1 and B6, riboflavin and nicotinic acid.
Man clings to tree to escape crocs
An Australian man spent 12 hours clinging to a tree branch "like a koala bear" as crocodiles circled beneath him after his boat ran aground.
Stan Martell said he climbed the tree after he fell asleep while out on the Lynne River in Western Australia and woke to find the boat jammed under a tree and filled with water. Rescuers found him the next morning.
Judge throws out prostitution case
A US federal judge threw out a lawsuit aimed at driving classified ads for prostitution off an adult website.
US District Court Judge John Grady said not all postings on the Craigslist Adult Services section advertised prostitution and that other services could legitimately appear there. He said in a 31-page opinion: "A woman advertising erotic dancing for male clients is offering an adult service, yet this is not prostitution."
Global warming attitudes cooling
Americans seem to be cooling toward global warming.
Just 57pc think there is solid evidence the world is getting warmer, down 20 points in just three years, a new poll reveals. And the share of people who believe pollution by humans is causing temperatures to rise has also taken a dip, even as the US and world forums gear up for possible action against climate change.
