Saturday October 24 2009

A teenager told how he was forced to hand back a packet of wine gums because a bungling shopkeeper believed he was "under age".

Jaz Bhogal (15) bought the Haribo sweets from a 99p shop in Cambridgeshire, England, but was called back to the till and wrongly warned they contained alcohol. The teenager said he was left speechless after visiting the store on October 10 with a friend. He was made to hand over the packet of sweets and given a refund. 99p Stores commercial director Hussein Lulani admitted the cashier had been "over zealous".

He said in a 31-page opinion: "A woman advertising erotic dancing for male clients is offering an adult service, yet this is not prostitution."
