Excavations at the site of what was thought to be a mass grave in Kosovo's capital Pristina have revealed no traces of people still missing from the separatist war in 1988-89.

Excavations began two weeks ago because of suspicions that a mass grave existed in the area near Pristina University in the centre of the city.

But Kosovo's prosecutor's office confirmed that no human remains were found.

About 1,650 people are still listed as missing from the war with Serbia.

Kosovo, now an independent country, came under UN and Nato administration after a Nato-led air assault halted the Serb crackdown on ethnic Albanian separatists.
