Sudan 'kicking out' refugees

Sudan's government is increasing the pressure on Darfur civilians to leave many refugee camps, where they had fled to avoid violence, in a worrying sign of further turmoil.

The United Nations says the government has even loaded some refugees by force on to trucks in recent days to drag them out.

Nasa to reveal secret air mishaps

Nasa is abandoning its secrecy claims and promising to reveal results of an unprecedented US government aviation survey that found aircraft near-collisions, runway interference and other safety problems occurred far more often than previously recognised.

However, Nasa will scrub the data to ensure that none of the 24,000 pilots interviewed anonymously could be identified.

Holly Barnes (33), entered pleas to 15 counts of identity theft before US District Judge Casey Rodgers in Florida.

Coach cited for pheasant cruelty

An assistant high school football coach has been cited for animal cruelty in Utah after stepping on a pheasant that two boys released on the field as a prank during a game.

Athens burns as politicians vote

The historic vote paves the way for Greece's European partners and the International Monetary Fund to release 170 billion euro in new rescue loans, without which Greece would default on its mountain of debt next month and likely leave the eurozone - a scenario that would further unsettle global markets. Politicians voted 199-74 in favour of the cutbacks, despite strong dissent among the two main coalition members.

Eight held in corruption probe

Five men aged between 45 and 68 were arrested at addresses in London, Kent and Essex on suspicion of corruption, aiding and abetting misconduct in a public office, and conspiracy in relation to both these offences. They are being questioned at police stations in London and Kent.
