Seven men have died in a gas explosion at a coal mine in eastern Ukraine.

Ukraine's acting President Oleksandr Turchynov held a minute's silence at the parliament to commemorate the deaths today in Donetsk.

Ukraine's energy minister Yuri Prodan was quoted by the Interfax news agency as saying poor safety precautions were to blame.
