Scarlett and Ryan end their two-year marriage
Hollywood stars Scarlett Johansson and Ryan Reynolds have called it quits after two years of marriage, they said in a statement last night.
"After long and careful consideration on both our parts, we've decided to end our marriage.
"We entered our relationship with love and it's with love and kindness we leave it," their statement said.
Johansson, the 26-year-old star of Woody Allen's romantic comedy-drama 'Vicky Cristina Barcelona' and 'He's Just Not That Into You', married Reynolds in 2008.
The Canadian (34), whose credits include 'Van Wilder' and the upcoming 'Green Lantern', was previously engaged to singer Alanis Morissette.
'US Weekly' cited a source as saying their marriage was strained by time spent apart on movies, while 'People' magazine said that the couple actually separated about six months ago.
Their break-up is the latest in a flurry of celebrity splits that were announced this week.
Other casualties include the marriages of model Elizabeth Hurley and Indian businessman Arun Nayar, and 'Dexter' stars Michael C Hall and Jennifer Carpenter.
Coincidentally, Reynolds was also named the "sexiest man alive" by 'People' earlier this year.
It was the first time a Canadian has made the list in the 25 years since the magazine started its annual feature.
"This gives my family entry into teasing me for the rest of my life," the 34-year-old star of 'The Proposal' joked at the time.
