Thousands of anti-government protesters have begun marching towards Pakistan's parliament, where the country's prime minister has already deployed army troops.

Opposition politician Imran Khan and cleric Tahir-ul-Qadri are leading thousands of their supporters in Pakistan's capital, Islamabad, to demand prime minister Nawaz Sharif step down over allegations of fraud in last year's election.

Qadri held a prayer service before the march. The protesters are marching toward Islambad's so-called Red Zone, which houses the parliament, the president and prime minister's offices and diplomatic posts.
