PRINCE Philip appeared in good health as he joined the rest of the British royal family for the New Year's Day religious service at Sandringham.
While the queen arrived in a Bentley, the duke chose to make the 400-metre trip from Sandringham House to the estate's church on foot just days after his heart surgery for a blocked artery. There had been doubts about whether the duke would attend following his health scare.

DESPITE a government scare campaign, firecrackers and gunfire injured nearly 500 people in the Philippines as revellers welcomed the new year in one of the world's most raucous and dangerous celebrations.
About a dozen plane flights were diverted or cancelled after dark smog caused by a night of firecracker explosions obscured visibility at Manila's airport, officials said.
Man killed by home fireworks
AN explosion caused by a man setting off fireworks in his apartment on New Year's Eve destroyed a residential building in Rome, killing him and injuring several other occupants, including a child.
Rome Mayor Gianni Alemanno said that the man was known to police for dealing in illegal fireworks.
