Police pride as stolen lion found

Police in Brazil said a lion was stolen in a dispute between a breeding farm and an animal sactuary

Police in Brazil have found a lion that was stolen three days ago from an animal shelter in the state of Sao Paulo.

The police chief of the city of Maringa Sergio Barroso says officers recovered the lion at a breeding farm 320 miles from the sanctuary where nine-year-old Rawell was stolen.

Mr Barroso says they searched there because of a dispute between the small ranch's owner and the sanctuary.

He told radio station BandNews that the rancher previously owned the lion and contends he still does.

Mr Barroso says a caretaker was detained when the lion was found and the rancher has been summoned to appear before authorities.

The 660-pound lion was not harmed and will be staying in the city of Maringa until the matter is cleared up.
