The arrests were apparently aimed at preventing more protests during tomorrow's final between Argentina and Germany in Rio's Maracana stadium.

Police said officers had seized gas masks, fireworks and firearms.

Officials said yesterday that more than 25,000 soldiers and police will be deployed in the city tomorrow in the biggest security detail in the country's history.
