Paws to remember the Alamo
The Alamo has a new official cat - a calico puss named Miss Isabella Francisca Veramendi de Valero. But visitors can call her Bella.
Rodent hunter Bella's appointment was announced by the Texas General Land Office, which oversees the state-owned landmark in San Antonio, a former Roman Catholic mission and fortress compound and the site of the Battle of the Alamo in 1836.
The previous Alamo cat, CC - Mistress Clara Carmack - died last summer.
Bella was found roaming the grounds of the Presidio la Bahia in Goliad and an employee brought her to the Alamo.
She now wears a tag that says "I Belong At The Alamo" and has been seen on a cannon, playing near a computer keyboard and frolicking with workers.
Staffers care for and pay her expenses and Bella spends her nights in an Alamo office.
