The video shows the moment passengers on board the Shenzhen Airlines Flight ZH9648 panicked as a man tries to start the fire.

Cabin crew can be heard shouting over the screaming passengers as they ask for a ‘solider or armed police’ to help restrain the man on board the flight from Taizhou to Guangzhou in China.

Another flight attendant shouts: "Sit down. Believe in us. Believe in us! We got this,” as the pilot demands everyone sit down as he prepares for an emergency descent.

They also ask people to cover their hands with a scarf in an effort to fight the flames.

Two passengers were injured before the man could be subdued by passengers and cabin crew.

Xinhua news agency said the man was trying to ‘damage facilitates’, with a report by the Civil Aviation Resource Net of China stating that he ‘attempted arson’ as the plane was coming in to land.
