Oscar Pistorius has sold the Pretoria house where he killed his girlfriend to a man wanting a retirement property in a "safe area".
Pistorius, the South African double amputee sprinter, is accused of murdering Reeva Steenkamp, above, on Valentine's Day in 2013.
He had decided to sell the house to help cover the escalating legal costs of his trial. However, the four-bedroom home in the gated, high-security Silver Woods Estate, sold for below the expected price. It was bought for €312,00 by Louwtjie Louwrens, a mining consultant from Boksburg, near Johannesburg.
The estate agent who handled the sale, Ansie Louw, who is married to Pistorius's coach, said in March that the athlete had hoped to sell the property for more. Mr Louwrens, who is married and has a son and daughter, said that the house will require some repairs.
He said that his wife will retire within two years, at which point the family might move into the home.
"It stood empty for more than a year and there is some water damage, so we would first have to repair it," Mr Louwrens said.
"It is in a safe area and everyone I dealt with was very professional."
Pistorius (27) is accused of shooting dead Steenkamp through a locked bathroom door at his home following a late-night argument. He maintains that he thought she was an intruder and killed her accidentally.
Closing arguments in the trial are due to be heard next week. (© Daily Telegraph, London)
