Oldest man on earth

A BRAZILIAN man whose parents were African slaves could be the oldest living person ever documented after receiving a birth certificate showing he turned 126 last week.

Jose Aguinelo dos Santos was born on July 7, 1888, just two months after slavery was abolished in Brazil – the last country in the world to outlaw the trade.

SACKED FOR PORN STASH

A DISGRACED Chinese official who allegedly used his ill-gotten wealth to collect real estate and pornography has been sacked after a stash of smutty films were found under a statue of the Buddha at one of his 34 properties.

Wu Zhizhong, a senior civil servant from Inner Mongolia, is the latest official to see his career destroyed by a major anti-corruption campaign being spearheaded by President Xi Jinping.

SCOTLAND IN MOON BID

SPACE tourists could be blasting into orbit from one of eight sites named as possible locations for Britain's first spaceport in just four years' time.

Six of the sites shortlisted for the spaceport, due to open in 2018, are in Scotland, such as Glasgow Prestwick Airport and RAF Lossiemouth.

SINGING LIKE THE KING

SOME three dozen Elvis Tribute Artists took to the stage in Las Vegas over the weekend to see who could do the most convincing portrayal in the Ultimate Elvis Tribute Artist competition during Elvis Week.

Adam Fitzpatrick (29), from Penticton, British Columbia, won the top prize and $2,500 (€1,842).

BANGERS AND CASH

GERMANY'S competition watchdog has imposed fines totalling €338m on 21 sausage manufacturers for colluding on prices.

The Federal Cartel Office said the fines also included penalties against 33 individuals. The companies punished included Nestle subsidiary Herta, as well as Meica, Boeklunder and Wiesenhof.

GRIMSBY IRKED BY ALI G

SACHA Baron Cohen's latest film 'Grimsby' has offended some of the residents of the UK northern town – for portraying it as a "terrible" place.

The Ali G star's spoof spy film – with a stellar cast including Penelope Cruz, Rebel Wilson, Mark Strong and Ian McShane – is about a football hooligan who teams up with his secret agent brother. Alhough the movie is titled and set in Grimsby, it is being filmed in the Essex port of Tilbury.
