A train derailing during a lightning storm has been captured on camera.
The video, posted to social media site Twitter, by ‘Isles ofErin’ shows a Chicago train canopy lighting up, then collapsing.
The women who can be heard in the video were driving past as they witnessed the collapse, which occurred on Sunday.
Later on Sunday evening the Chicago Transit Authority posted a message on its own Twitter account.
It explained: “Workers are currently removing the debris from a station entrance canopy that has obstructed Blue Line train service.”
Despite appearances, lightning was not actually the cause of the shocking collapse.
The cause of the collapse is thought to be debris from the storm which had been deposited on the track.
