An 11-year-old boy tragically drowned trying to save his older brother while their horrified mother tried to get help.

Isaac Grasser was swimming in the Oreille River in Idaho on August 1 when he got into trouble.

His brother Michael (11) jumped in to try to help, while their mother Kathy managed to swim to the shore to raise the alarm.

Bystanders were able to bring Isaac to the shore and carry out CPR, before he was rushed to hospital.

The New York Post reports that Bonner County Dive Team members found Michael's remains in water that was up to seven foot deep.

They performed CPR on him but he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Isaac was on life support for three days but sadly also passed away on Friday.

Officials have claimed that the boys were inexperienced swimmers and neither were wearing life vests.

A GoFundMe page has been set up to support their devastated family, for more information or to donate, please visit here.
