A teenager shot his mother while she was sleeping after an argument over his new puppy according to police.

The shocking incident unfolded in Michigan.

Andrew David Wilson was arraigned Monday on charges of murder and felony firearm possession, according to local news station KPTV.

The young man called police last Friday and officers discovered his mother Lisa Wilson (51) dead in her bedroom with a gunshot wound to the back of her head.

Locla media is reporting that the day before the shooting Ms Wilson told her son a puppy he found a few weeks earlier could not stay at their home and would have to stay with his dad in a nearby town.

The next hearing in relation to the case will take place on September 28.
